Preschooler: Social/
Emotional Development

4 Years

Now your preschool age child is able to take turns and share (most of the time); but he may still be bossy.  He can participate in circle time in preschool, play group board games and understands and obeys simple rules (most of the time) or change the rules of the game as he goes along. He offers item or another activity to another in exchange for an item or activity.  He has difficulty separating make-believe from reality.  He can quiet down after active play and likes to volunteer for tasks.  Your preschooler can also talk about his own feelings and accept valid criticism.

How to Teach Frustration Tolerance to Kids
Ready or not your child must have the skills to begin Kindergarten.  He likes to feel grown-up; and boasts about himself to younger, less capable children.  He often excludes other children in play – best friends only.  He likes to make his own decisions and remains calm when small requests are denied.  He is sensitive to the feelings of others and notices when other children are angry or sad.  He is capable of apologizing if he hurts someone’s feelings.  He likes to try new things and can complete pencil/paper games.  He can also answer the telephone and take a simple message and deliver it to the correct person.  He can work alone on chores for about 20 minutes.
